AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This is what the Aftercare Instructions involves and it is extremely important to follow the advice given.

SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP

Client co operation is of the utmost importance for the after care instructions and must be followed completely, it is a crucial part of the removal process. Advanced or improper removal of the the crust can cause severe infection and scratching will cause scarring. The aftercare advice is just as important as the pigment extraction process itself!

Full aftercare instructions and other important information are given three ways, verbally during the consultation, to every client after the procedure in hard copy and finally by email. This will also include Important Information, Procedural Advice and Immediately After the Treatment handouts.

It is essential the newly placed pigment is not knocked, disturbed, pulled or picked at, in the treated area, as it will result in pigment loss and destroy the treatment.  Remember you have to go through three phases: heal, peel and fade. Picking and pulling at the scabs will pull the pigment out and your desired results will not be met. It is obvious to us when this happens, we can see it. We take no responsibility for treatments which have been marred by clients ignoring the aftercare advice. Please note the aftercare treatment is as important as the treatment itsel

WHAT TO EXPECT POST TREATMENT

Nearly all normal activities can be resumed straight after the treatment; clients often go back to work or out the same evening there is very little down time. There will most likely be some slight swelling or redness and the lips will be distorted but this is perfectly normal and disappears very quickly. You may notice whitening or blanching around the treated area from the numbing anaesthetic, this is completely normal and will subside within an hour or so.

Immediately after the treatment the colour will always look darker and will fade up to 50% when the colour has healed into the skin and the scabs have sloughed away, this normally takes about 7 days. Eyeliner is the quickest to heal. Avoid swimming, going in a sauna or Jacuzzi or a gym post treatment. After 3 days a very light amount of Vaseline can be applied as a barrier and then continue as normal when completely healed.

THREE PHASES OF THE HEALING PROCESS

  • Heal:  The body has natural defences whereby it will create a fine scab to protect the area whilst healing.
  • Peel: After a few days the scab will slough away. Picking at the treated area as it heals will result in pigment loss and will affect the result. If it itches lightly dab with a clean cotton bud.
  • Fade:  After the fine scabbing has sloughed away you will see a lighter colour to the implanted colour which is more realistic. After 4-6 weeks the colour will appear to take on a new strength. After the last procedure at 13 weeks the colour will have settled completely.

Additional procedures cannot be undertaken in this area until it has completely healed. We suggest a 8-10 week healing time before further work is undertaken. Please schedule your next appointment before leaving the clinic. Once the area has completely healed (6-10 days) use a sunblock to prevent the pigment colour fading. Strong chemicals or Glycolic/Acid peels may cause the pigment to lighten.

Your procedure is undertaken using sealed sterile products in a hygienically clean environment. It is your responsibility to follow the after-care advice given, to avoid any risk of infection. Home care post procedure is of the utmost importance and we accept no responsibility if this is not carried out as instructed, as it WILL affect the result.

  • Keep the treated area dry for at least 3 days.
  • The skin under the crust will become tight for about 3 days (it is normal). Minimise movement to the area until the crust peels off on its own accord.
  • Try to avoid water contact altogether, cover the treated area whilst bathing or showering. Do not expose the crust directly under shower spray.
  • Do not rub or have the area in contact with soap.
  • No swimming, no soaking or steaming. Do not allow the crust to soften by moisture. If there is water contact, dab the area as soon as possible using a dry clean pad, flannel or towel and gently press the crust to remove water and allow to air dry only.
  • A dark crust or scab will form over the treated area and will peel off naturally in 14 – 25 days.
  • It is of the utmost importance you do not pick or pull off the crust prematurely, this will increase the risk of scarring and prolong the recovery time.

The crust can loosen at the edges from healing or movement. The crust edges become flaky but the rest is still well attached. A bandage is recommended to keep them in place. The better option is a permeable bandage so the wound can breathe. Please wear clothes that will not rub until the entire crust comes off.

THREE PHASES OF THE HEALING PROCESS

  • Heal:  The body has natural defences whereby it will create a fine scab to protect the area whilst healing. Within this scab you will notice the pigment which has been coaxed out by the bonding agent inserted.
  • Peel: After time the scab will slough away. Picking at the treated area as it heals will result in scarring and will affect the end result. If it itches lightly dab with a dry clean cotton bud.
  • Fade:  After the scabbing has sloughed away you will see slight redness. This is new skin so be patient and allow the skin to settle. Apply Rejuvi “H” Super Soothing cream.

In case of infection, use a cotton pad dampened with 25% hydrogen peroxide (available at chemists) to press gently the treated area for sterilisation, then apply antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin or triple Anti-biotic on the skin at the edge of the crust only (available from your technician). If infection remains go to your doctor for prescribed anti biotic tablets.

After the crust peels off the treated skin area will show a substantial redness and will be perhaps raised which will remain on the skin and will return to normal within 4 months. Apply Rejuvi “H” Super Soothing cream immediately after the crust falls off and each time after washing to diminish the redness and speed up skin recovery. A bandage may be used to cover “H” Soothing Cream, enhancing skin recovery in the initial 6 – 8 weeks.

If itchiness occurs please do not scratch the area, gently tap the area and it should go away. Scratching on the area during the healing process will cause scarring and effect the desired result.

The second removal treatment (and subsequent) can be performed again only when the area has completely healed (usually after 3 months).

In case of infection please go directly to your doctor for the appropriate treatment.

Healing normally takes up to 10 days. Please expect the following Care Instructions following your treatment.

  1. Expect temporary swelling and/or redness for the first day or two.
  2. Scabbing or flaking may occur on the tattooed area. This is a normal part of the healing process, but it is important not to pick at it since you may remove the pigment and cause infection, this will also effect the look of the desired result.
  3. Keep the tattooed area clean.
  4. Use clean paper or gauze after showering or bathing to pat the area dry.
  5. You will be asked to apply antibacterial ointment a few times a day for a couple of days.
  6. Do not go to the gym, swimming, sunbathing or to a sauna and Jacuzzi for at least two weeks following the treatments.
  7. Wear a tight camisole top or a comfortable bra for the first 3 days and then no bra at all if possible.
  8. You will be given a follow-up appointment for the second treatment where additional pigment is applied.
